The German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has said he is against the idea banning performances by Russian artists in Germany over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
At a press conference on Thursday, Scholz was asked about his stance on the potential exclusion of Russian performers from German venues. Scholz dismissed the notion, saying that the ban should exclusively target Russian propagandists rather than artists who may hold different views than Putin. He added: „Russian culture is an integral part of our shared European history. It should not be summarily prohibited.” His statement follows a series of recent incidents in which artists encountered backlash due to their opinions or perceived allegiances.

Polish security services are investigating an outbreak of Legionnaires’’ disease that has killed seven people in the southeastern city of Rzeszów near the Ukrainian border, it has been announced.
A deputy government minister in charge of security services, said investigators wanted to rule out the possibility of foul play, including any possible involvement by Russia. The bacteria that cause the illness has so far been found in 113 patients hospitalised in Rzeszów and the surrounding area in Poland’s southeastern Podkarpackie region near Ukraine. Authorities said earlier this week they were testing water samples for Legionella and that the results would be known on Monday. The city’s mayor added that the city’s water system would be rinsed and disinfected over the weekend.

Polish beekeepers have expressed concern over declining demand for honey in the country.
Cheap imports of honey, especially from China, have meant that the wholesale price of honey is below the breakeven point for Polish suppliers, even for large Polish honey producers. There are numerous honey blenders in Poland who use cheap honey mixed with other honeys and there is a call in the industry to have better labelling of honey to educate consumers in the source of various kinds of honey. Leaders in the honey industry worry that the current way of working is unsustainable, especially for smaller honey producing outfits.

And finally, a senior citizen from Gdańsk who raised concern after he was spotted sitting on a bus for hours without getting off has been helped after it was discovered that he had become lost and confused and couldn’t find his way home.
The driver of the bus noticed that the gentleman had been riding the bus for a long time and after talking to the man, discovered that he had got on the wrong bus and wasn’t sure how to get home. The driver contacted the city guards who contacted the man’s daughter and safely got the man back home.
