Russia has pulled out of the global treaty banning nuclear weapons tests, it has been announced.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday signed a bill withdrawing Moscow’s ratification of the treaty. America’s Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed deep concern about Russia’s move. The anticipated action underscores the significant strain in relations between the United States and Russia, which are currently at their lowest point since the Cuban missile crisis of 1962. This tension primarily revolves around the conflict in Ukraine and Moscow’s perception of Washington’s efforts to hinder the formation of a new multi-polar global order.

An influential educational body in Poland has made an appeal for the establishment of a robust, separate ministry dedicated solely to science and higher education.
The statement was made in press release made by the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (KRASP). They are calling for the establishment of two distinct ministries, one focusedon science and higher education and another on broader education, replacing the existing Ministry of Education and Science. The appeal comes amidst other similar calls from notable figures in the Polish scientific community, including the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the chairman of the Main Council of Science and Higher Education.

Poland’s Iga Świątek has beaten American tennis player Coco Gauff in straight sets in her second match at the season-ending WTA Finals tennis tournament in Cancun, Mexico.
The Polish world No. 2 defeated the third-seeded American 6-0 7-5 to secure her second straight win at the eight-player event in Mexico. She will now take on Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in her last group-stage match on today. The 2023 WTA Finals event began on October 29th and runs until November 5th.

And finally, fire-fighters from across Poland have paid tribute to one of their fallen comrades who died while searching for the suspected murderer of a 6-year-old boy in Gdynia.
27-year-old Bartosz Błyskal from the Specialist Water and Diving Group of the City Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk died on Wednesday during a search operation in Gdynia. At 6:00 p.m. yesterday, fire-fighters from across the country turned on light and sound signals in all Volunteer and State Fire Service units. The tragic accident happened while the diver was searching a body of water known locally as „Maria’s Spring”. He failed to surface after a number of minutes of being underwater.
