Radio Gdansk English News: Billions for Poland under EU virus recovery plan

Poland stands to receive 63.8 billion euros from the European Union under a major coronavirus recovery plan proposed by the bloc’s executive.
The European Commission this week unveiled a 750 billion euro proposal to prop up economies battered by the coronavirus. Of this, Poland will receive almost 64 billion euros in grants and loans amid the pandemic, the third-highest amount in the bloc, after Italy and Spain.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki was quoted as saying that Poland had been a strong supporter of an „ambitious” budget for rebuilding Europe after the coronavirus disruption. He added that the EU executive’s proposal was „proof that Poland’s voice is heard, taken into account and appreciated in Europe.”

Psychologist warns Poles against „unrealistic optimism” as lockdown eases

As life begins to slowly return to normal in Poland after the COVID-19 lockdown, a psychologist has warned that „unrealistic optimism” could be dangerous.

As Poland relaxes face mask rules and playgrounds will open from tomorrow, a doctor from the University of Łódź explained that people who have directly experienced the threat from Corona virus will be able to realistically assess it and take preventive action. However there is a danger that people not directly affected will not consider and take the proper preventive actions and will put themselves and others at risk of infection.
