Radio Gdansk News in English: German president to visit Poland

Germany President is expected to visit Poland this month, officials have announced. President Steinmeier will come to Warsaw on June 17 to hold face-to-face talks with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda and attend a debate on people-to-people relations between the two countries.

 

His visit will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Polish-German Treaty of Good Neighbour-ship and Friendly Cooperation. Signed on June 17, 1991, the landmark agreement set the two neighbouring nations on a path of reconciliation several decades after Nazi Germany inflicted mass destruction on Poland during World War II.

Ukraine’s Zelensky 'surprised’ and 'disappointed’ by Biden’s NS2 move

Ukraine’s President has said he was surprised and disappointed when he learned that the administration in Washington had decided to scrap sanctions on a firm overseeing the construction of Russia’s contested Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Germany, a US-based news website has reported.

The axios.com website quoted the president as saying that he learned through the press—not any direct heads-up—that US President Joe Biden had decided to stop trying to block the Russian pipeline, an energy project that Ukraine sees as a dire national security threat.

Poland draw 2-2 with Iceland in Euro 2020 warm-up

Poland’s national football team picked up a 2-2 draw against Iceland on Tuesday in its last warm-up friendly at home before the Euro 2020 championships.

The game was played with around 20,000 spectators in the stands as Poland eases coronavirus restrictions amid a falling number of infections. Poland, under their Portuguese manager Paulo Sousa, kick off their Euro 2020 group-stage campaign with a fixture against Slovakia on June 14. The Poles will next take on Spain on June 19 and then play Sweden four days later.

Flats and plots of land in the Tri-City experiencing rapid price gains

And finally, property and land prices in the Three Cities have started to increase rapidly in recent times according to a report on the Radio Gdańsk website.

A representative of a local estate agency claims that prices are up almost 20 to 25% in recent months. He explained that the Three City region is now starting to come out of the grips of the pandemic with the lifting effect of low mortgage interest rates also fuelling interest in property purchases. Giving an example, he stated that apartments that until recently would have cost between PLN 200-220,000, are now selling for over PLN 300,000.
