Poland’s Civil Aviation Authority has launched a campaign to promote air travel amid the pandemic and convince Poles that flying is now safe and convenient.

Poland’s Deputy Infrastructure Minister said, „We want passengers to get back to flying, in a safe way. There are procedures and rules in place… by obeying them everybody will be able to travel safely, which we encourage you to do, hoping for a dynamic rebound of air traffic in Poland”.

Passengers numbers in 2020 were down 70% on the previous year with only 14.5 million people flying out of Polish airports. The Civil Aviation Authority said that the last time numbers were so low was 15 years ago.

The Polish authorities have detained 12 suspected members of a gun-running gang, prosecutors said on Wednesday.

The suspects, who face up to 10 years in jail, were held by police, border guards and the country’s Internal Security Agency in central and southern Poland earlier this week. Law enforcers carried out searches and seized over 60 illegal firearms of various types.

Investigators believe the gang smuggled weapons and ammunition from Slovakia. In Poland, the weapons were stripped of their identification marks and then sold.
