Lithuania’s President Gitanas Nausėda is arriving in Warsaw today to discuss a range of bilateral issues with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda.

The Lithuanian president and his wife, First Lady Diana Nausėdienė, are expected to be welcomed by Poland’s presidential couple, Andrzej Duda and Agata Korhauser-Duda, today in Krakow.

The agenda for discussions today will include issues like regional security and cultural cooperation. The two heads of state will also take part in celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of the mounting of the Royal “Zygmunt” Bell at Kraków’s Wawel Cathedral.

The bell, which was cast in Germany in 1520, bears the coat of arms of both Poland and Lithuania, and serves as a representation of the “magnificent history of Polish-Lithuanian relations.”

As of yesterday, all travelers arriving in Poland are required to fill in an entry form detailing their temporary address in the country.

Under new rules that went into effect on Saturday, the forms, called electronic location cards, are required to be filled out in advance by those planning to enter Polish territory. If filling out the online form is not possible, travelers will receive paper forms from airline crews.

Also, starting from Saturday, those returning from Turkey no longer have to quarantine under the new rules. Per previous regulations, fully vaccinated travelers are exempted from quarantine upon arrival in Poland.

The change comes just as Warsaw Chopin Airport, Poland’s busiest air traffic hub, recorded a 234-percent year-on-year increase in flight operations between June 2020 and June 2021. While the promising figures indicate that travel is beginning to pick back up in Poland and across Europe, the numbers still represent a 52-percent decrease compared to the same month in 2019.

Poland’s rescue services were called out on over 5,000 incidents across the country related to flooding and storm damage over the weekend.

Heavy rains led to flash flooding in several Polish cities, causing property damage and traffic disruptions. In Szczecin, several streets were flooded, with parked cars left partially submerged after the storms.

In the central province of Łódzkie, strong winds toppled trees and ripped off rooftops. Meanwhile, extreme weather forced 15 scout camps, set up across the country, to evacuate on Friday.

In Pomerania, the situation was somewhat more relaxed. Firefighters were reportedly called out 33 times, mostly in connection with pumping water from flooded streets and garages and removing fallen tree branches and other debris. No one was seriously injured, and no significant damage was reported.
