The Polish and Czech Prime Ministers have agreed to jointly apply to the European Commission for funds to support refugees from war-torn Ukraine.

The two Prime Ministers met yesterday in Warsaw to discuss a number of matters including greater co-operation in the energy sector, particularly in helping the Czech Republic free themselves of dependence on Russian energy. Morawiecki said that he and Fiala also discussed „working together in the European Union”. He added that the Czech Republic would play „a huge role” after taking over the presidency of the bloc for the second part of the year.

The president of Ukraine has thanked Poland and Poles for their „unprecedented assistance” to the war-torn country.

The Ukrainian President was meeting Polish journalists in the capital Kiev on Friday when he made the comments. The Ukrainian president said: „I would like to thank Poland and the Polish people for the unprecedented assistance extended to Ukraine and Ukrainians”. „In particular I would like to thank [Polish President] Andrzej Duda and his wife for the way they have involved themselves in helping Ukraine”. The Ukrainian head of state dismissed reports in Russian media that Poland allegedly sought to seize western Ukraine as „propaganda” and „information missiles designed to sow panic”.

The UK is set to kick off its annual „Polish Heritage Days” celebrations in May, the 6th time is has arranged the cultural festival which takes place across the UK. The idea behind Polish Heritage Days is to promote and celebrate Polish culture, the heritage of past generations, and the Polish people’s contribution to British culture, economy and society.

The event will run throughout May across the United Kingdom, and its start coincides with the Day of Poles Abroad and Flag Day in Poland on May 2 as well as Poland’s Constitution Day on May 3. In Poland May 3rd is a public holiday. This year’s edition focuses on celebrating the contribution of Polish World War II-era generals Władysław Anders, Stanisław Maczek and Stanisław Sosabowski to the legacy and history of Poles in Britain.

And finally, the quayside at Nowy Port is set to reopen this weekend after being closed for renovation in the previous months.

The renovations have been co-financed to the tune of 85% by the EU. The renovated quay area now has the possibility of mooring for passenger vessels as well as having increased capacity. The modernised area is set to make it more attractive and friendly to visitors who will be able to admire the vessels entering the port up close. According to the Port of Gdansk, the official closure of the entire quay modernization project is scheduled for June this year. The cost of the entire investment was over PLN 595 million.
