Poland set to buy 48 South Korean combat aircraft

The Polish military is set to buy 48 South Korean fighter trainer jets it has been announced. The FA-50 aircraft will replace the old Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jets, which Poland’s defence minister has called „a generational leap”. „The contracts also include a training package with link trainers, simulators and a logistics package,” the minister said. „We’ve also agreed to build a service centre in Poland based on cooperation between Korea Aerospace Industries and Polish Armaments Group.” According to the defence minister, the new planes will patrol skies over Poland and other NATO states. The decision is partly based on the recommendation of Polish military pilots The jets are similar to F-16 aircraft currently used by Polish pilots

Polish president to meet new UK PM on Sunday

Poland’s president is set to meet the new UK Prime Minister this weekend. Andrzej Duda will be hosted by Liz Truss at the PM’s office in London’s Downing Street ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday. Over the weekend, the UK PM is also set to meet the leaders of the USA, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Poland’s president will be the only leader of a non-native English speaking country to be hosted by Truss ahead of the Queen’s funeral.

Poland to play for bronze in basketball competition

Poland’s National basketball team is set to play for bronze in the Men’s Eurobasket 2022 final after being defeated by France in their semi-final on Friday. The Poles lost 9:15, 9:19, 18:30, 18:31 to the Olympic runners-up in front of 11,563 spectators at the EuroBasket Arena in Berlin, Germany. They will face the losing side from the other semi-final, between Germany and Spain, in the bronze-medal game in Berlin on Sunday.

73 year old Gdynia arrested on international warrant

And finally, police in Gdynia have detained a 73 year-old resident of the city who was wanted by the Italian police. The man was wanted for murder, obtaining benefits from prostitution and illegal use of a credit card. The man who was arrested on a European arrest warrant will now face deportation to Italy. Police from Gdynia were passed details of the man’s whereabouts and when they attended the premises, the man himself opened the door to officers. The suspect has been remanded in custody.
