NATO and EU officials have condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent statements concerning plans to locate tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus by June 1.

NATO spokesperson Oana Lungescu criticized Putin for his „dangerous and irresponsible” nuclear rhetoric in emailed comments to Reuters on Sunday, adding that NATO is closely monitoring the situation.

Putin’s announcement on Russian state TV on Saturday sparked concerns in the international community and prompted Ukraine to request a United Nations Security Council meeting on the matter. Ukrainian official Olexiy Danilov accused Russia of using Minsk as a „nuclear hostage” following the announcement, calling the move „a step towards [the] internal destabilization” of Belarus.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Sunday urged Belarus not to host Russian nuclear weapons, saying Minsk could face further sanctions if it did.

The Polish national football team is hoping for a fresh start tonight after a disappointing 3:1 loss to the Czech Republic last Friday in the opening match of the European Qualifiers.

New head coach Fernando Santos reportedly told his players to perform a „mental reset” after the White and Red’s „disastrous” debut match, telling reporters at a press conference on Sunday that „of course, they can’t forget it, but we can’t repeat it.”

He went on to express a sense of hope regarding tonight’s match, saying he was „convinced that here, with the support of fans… we will show our character, determination, and courage.”

Southampton defender Jan Bednarek echoed Santos’ optimism, assuring reporters and fans that „two days between matches is enough to regenerate and refresh not only the body but also the mind. We will definitely be mentally and physically ready for the next match.”

Poland hosts Albania at the National Stadium in Warsaw tonight at 8:45 CEST.

The Gdynia City Guard is appealing to local drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to be aware of frogs emerging from winter hibernation and migrating through the area in search of a mate.

As Gdynia City Guard spokesperson Leonard Wawrzyniak explained in an interview for gdynia.pl, the amphibians can often be encountered on sidewalks, bicycle paths, and streets, where they are frequently run over by vehicles or trampled by passers-by.

For this reason, the City Guard has put up signs to encourage residents to „pay attention, look around, and slow down” in certain areas so that as many frogs as possible can reach reservoirs and watercourses where they can safely reproduce.”

According to Wawrzyniak, the frogs fill a necessary niche in the local ecosystem, first as tadpoles who prevent water eutrophication by eating large amounts of algae, and later as adult frogs who eat potentially harmful insects and serve as a source of food for other animals.

Signage prepared by the Gdynia City Guard will be posted in places where clusters of amphibians have been observed.
