The Polish government has unveiled plans to provide additional protection for key infrastructure in the Baltic Sea as it seeks to protect it from „modern terrorist threats”.

The draft legislation was approved by the Polish government on Thursday. It comes amid heightened risk of attacks on Europe’s strategic energy infrastructure, following an act of sabotage targeting the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream gas pipeline last autumn. Under the plan, Poland’s defence minister will be entitled to order the army “to sink an enemy ship or watercraft” to foil a terrorist attack. The draft legislation must be approved by parliament to become law.

And finally, the troubled Mevo 2.0 cycle hire system faces new woes this week, as its sister scheme in Sweden faced issues. In trials in Stockholm, the frame of the bikes cracked, and one user was injured after he fell while riding a two-wheeler.

In the Three Cities, the system has been trialled since April. There have not been reported issues with bikes, however the associated smartphone application has suffered from several glitches which made it necessary to suspend the trial while the application was fixed. CityBike Global, the operator of the system, went live with the bike cycle scheme in Stockholm which has suffered a number of serious issues. The Tricity metropolitan fleet is to consist of 4,099 bicycles. 1,000 of them are traditional two-wheelers, while the rest are bicycles with electrically assisted drive.
