Poland’s prime minister has met with opposition politicians to discuss the European Union’s new migration deal, including a plan opposed by the conservative government in Warsaw to relocate migrants among member states.
Mateusz Morawiecki hosted the talks at his office in Warsaw yesterday. In attendance were senior lawmakers with the ruling Law and Justice party and politicians from a number of opposition parties. 3 parties declined the invitation, including the main opposition party.
During the two-hour meeting, which was also attended by Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński, Morawiecki encouraged the opposition to support the government’s “pact for safe European Union borders,” which opposes the bloc’s planned new migration deal.

Poland’s Sports Minister has said that the country should bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games after the country successfully bid for and hosted the 2023 European Games.
A total of 370 Polish athletes, 188 men and 182 women, competed for medals at the 3rd European Games, which opened in Poland’s Kraków on June 21 and lasted until July 2. The 2023 European Games featured 12 days of competition in 29 sports and provided opportunities to win European championship medals and a pathway to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in some of the sports.
More than 7,000 athletes from 48 countries took part in the event, which was held at 25 venues in 13 southern Polish cities.

The Polish Central Bank has kept interest rates at the current rate of 6.75 percent after a meeting of its Monetary Policy Council yesterday. The panel last year delivered a string of rate hikes in an effort to contain surging consumer prices.
Inflation in Poland stood at 11.5 percent last month, according to a flash estimate by the country’s statistics office. Poland’s central bank chief, Adam Glapiński, has predicted that inflation will drop to the single digits by the end of 2023.
The Polish central bank said in its latest Inflation Report, released on March 10, that inflation would average at 11.9 percent this year, followed by 5.7 percent in 2024 and 3.5 percent in 2025.

And finally, this weekend sees the 27th edition of the „Baltic Sail” event which sees Gdańsk become the Baltic capital of sailing ships. The event will last four days.
Gdańsk will host sailing ships from Lithuania, Germany, Sweden and Finland. More than 140 vessels have confirmed their arrival, including 16 traditional sailing ships.
One of the highlights of the event is the parade of ships, when all the vessels will set sail into the Bay of Gdańsk from the port of Gdańsk. The best place to observe it will be the beaches at the pier in Brzeźno.
The parade will take place on Sunday, July 9, at 12:00.
