Senior officials from Poland and more than 40 other countries are holding talks this weekend in Saudi Arabia to discuss ways to bring a peaceful end to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The two-day meeting, attended by officials from nations including the United States, China, and India, is part of a diplomatic push by Kyiv to build broader international support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s 10-point formula for a peace settlement, writes Reuters.
Speaking at the meeting yesterday, Zelensky said there were differences among the countries attending the gathering but added that “the international rules-based order, violated by Russian aggression, must be restored.”
Polish presidential aide Marcin Przydacz, who is representing Poland during the multinational talks, has voiced Poland’s support for Zelensky’s 10-point peace plan.
The plan reportedly includes calls for the full restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, a completel withdrawal of Russian troops, the protection of food and energy supplies, nuclear safeguards, and the release of all prisoners.

One worker was killed and five others injured after a tremor hit a Polish coal mine on Saturday morning, according to reports by local authorities.
The tremor at the Bielszowice mine in the Silesian town of Ruda Śląska occurred some 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) underground at around 6:30 yesterday morning.
The injured miners were taken to nearby hospitals; one in serious condition was flown by helicopter for treatment in Katowice, state news agency PAP reported.
Saturday’s accident is not the first time workers have been killed or injured due to underground tremors in Polish coal mines. According to Reuters, one worker was killed and 16 others injured at the same Bielszowice mine in October 2019.
In April 2022, at least 18 people were killed and 19 injured due to tremors and methane gas explosions at the Borynia-Zofiówka and Pniówek coal mines near the southeastern Polish city of Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
After the April 2022 incidents, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said he had ordered an investigation into safety conditions at Polish mines.

The Enea Ironman competition is underway this weekend in Gdynia, with drivers and local residents warned of delays and detours in the city center, port area, and surrounding communities.
The first round of competitors set out at 6:00 this morning to start the triathlon portion of the competition. The triathlon consists of swimming for 3.8 km (2.36 mi), cycling for 180 km (112 mi), and running a marathon of 42.2 km or 26.2 miles.
The 180 km (112 mile) cycling route will take competitors through the city and surrounding towns in Kashubia. Throughout the day, residents of the following districts may have problems exiting or entering their neighborhoods: Śródmieście, Witomina, Chylonia, Chwarzna, Wiczlina, and Pustki Cisowskie.
The triathlon event will continue until 22:00 this evening, with the last competitor expected to cross the finish line at Śródmieście beach by this time.

The Government Security Center (RCB) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for twelve voivodeships, including Pomerania.
As the RCB alert warned, from August 5-6, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected across most of Poland, with flash flooding also possible in many regions.
The alert is active until this evening in 12 of the 16 provinces of Poland, excluding only the provinces of Podlaskie, Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie, and Łódzkie.
