Poland will next week attempt to reinstate the use of permits for Ukrainian transport companies entering the European Union, as demanded by Polish haulers, the Polish prime minister has said. The prime minister said Poland would push for the return of the permits „at a meeting of EU transport ministers in Brussels on Monday.”

Polish transport companies have been blocking a number of checkpoints with Ukraine, demanding that the EU reinstate permits for Ukrainian transport firms entering the bloc, and that Ukraine abolish an electronic queuing system for empty trucks returning to Poland, according to news outlets. Meanwhile, Polish farmers are blocking another crossing, calling for subsidies on wheat and state-backed loans amid an influx of grain from Ukraine, and also want the farm tax rates to be kept unchanged.

Polish opposition politicians have slammed a report by a state commission investigating Russian interference in Poland’s internal security from 2007 to 2022 after it concluded that Polish and Russian security services worked together between 2010 and 2014 when the government in Warsaw was headed by Donald Tusk.

The opposition MPs counter that the panel has been created „for political ends” and that its work „undermines Poland’s security services.” On Wednesday night, lawmakers voted to dismiss the members of the commission. The head of the opposition Civic Coalition has called for the commission to be abolished. Polish MPs are likely to elect Donald Tusk as the country’s new prime minister on December 11th, to head a Cabinet made up of four pro-EU opposition groups.
