President Vows to Seek Release of Jailed Ex-Ministers, Government Defends Arrests

President Andrzej Duda has stated that he will „not rest” until two ex-ministers arrested in the presidential palace on Tuesday are freed. The government has come out defending the arrests, remarking it was a professional execution of a court order.

Mariusz Kaminski and Maciej Wąsick were detained and sentenced to 2 years for „abuse of power” when serving under Poland’s anti corruption service. President Duda added that his pardon of the ex-ministers was constitutional and should stand.

Court Rejects Government’s Change of TV Management

Minister of Culture Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz’s decision to change the management of state broadcasters like TVP has been rejected by a court. The move represented a broader movement to take control of public media outlets that had allegedly become biased towards the previous government, with many questioning its legality.

The decision was made by a court of the National Court Register (KRS) on Tuesday. It stated that the National Media Council (RMN) is legally responsible for the managerial appointments.

Renowned Priest and Anti-Communist Leader Passes Away

Father Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski has passed away due to a battle with cancer at the age of 67. He was a prominent figure in the Polish Catholic Church and known for his anti-communist stance and a member of the anti-communist opposition during the reign of the USSR.

He was also known as a writer, poet, and Head of the Brother Albert Foundation, a Catholic charity founded to help the poor and homeless.

Poland’s Goczał Wins Stage Four of Dakar Rally

Polish Driver Eryk Goczał has gained another victory in the fourth stage of the Dakar Rally challenger class, further increasing his lead overall. The race took place on Tuesday from Al-Salamiya to Al-Hofuf in Saudi Arabia, over 630 Kilometers.

Goczał finished with a time of 2 hours and 58 minutes, with his Uncle and Father, Michał and Marek, respectively, also finishing among the top contenders once again.
