This weekend saw the 2nd Gdańsk triathlon event taking place in the city over three days during the long weekend.
More than 1000 professional and amateur athletes of all ages took part in the triathlon which involves swimming, cycling and running. The competition was split into three categories – beginners who had to swim 750 meters, cycle 20 kilometres and then finish with a 5 kilometre run. The intermediate level athletes competed over an Olympic distance 1.5 km swim, 40 km cycle and a 10 km run, with the advanced level performing a 1.9 km swim in the Baltic Sea, a 90 km cycle and a half-marathon run. Attendance was up 20% on the previous year and was gifted with glorious weather.

Poland has condemned a decision by the organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest not to hold the singing competition in Ukraine next year because of the risks associated with the ongoing war in the country.
Ukraine won the competition this year in a show of solidarity from competing other nations. The Polish culture minister expressed his disappointment at the weekend with the decision of the Eurovision Song Contest’s organisers who had announced talks with the UK to host the next year’s event instead of Ukraine due to the war in the country. It is tradition for the winning country to host the following year’s contest. Both the Ukraine, Poland and the UK have said the organizers should reconsider their decision and have encouraged further dialogue with Ukrainian authorities.

The European Investment Bank, one of the largest supranational lenders in the world, has given the green light for EUR 2 billion in debt financing for Poland as a host country for refugees from Ukraine.
The bank, which is owned by the EU Member States, has create its so-called „Solidarity Package” which is dedicated for countries taking in refugees from Ukraine, offering long-term financing on preferential terms. The funding is meant to mitigate the social and economic impact of the Ukraine war and help public agencies face challenges brought by the war-induced crisis.

Poland’s competitors have won 3 medals yesterday at this weekend’s 2nd 2022 World Rowing Cup held in the Polish city of Poznan.
The Polish team won the Men’s Eight Rowing Final, silver in the Men’s Double Sculls Final and also took bronze in the Men’s Quadruple Sculls Final. The 4 day event took place at the Lake Malta regatta course is located in the centre of Poznan. It is one of the most modern venues in the world and has hosted large international events in water sports over the last twenty years.

Today will be a rainy day with some sun later in the day in a gentle breeze with temperatures of 16 degrees centigrade (61 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day and 9 degrees overnight. Tomorrow there will be some rain showers clearing into the afternoon in a moderate breeze and temperatures of 17 degrees again during the day and 10 degrees overnight.
