Radio Gdansk News in English: Polish Foreign Minister says halting Nord Stream 2 is possible

Poland’s foreign minister has said that stopping the construction of the contested Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is “entirely possible.” In an interview with public broadcaster Polish Radio, the Polish Foreign Minister said that that Nord Stream 2 “divides European countries on the one hand, and on the other hand makes the economy of our part of Europe dependent on Russia, thus providing Russia with sources of financing for its foreign policy, which is so hostile to the European Union”.

He added that halting the construction of the gas link between Germany and Russia is “entirely possible, because this project has not been completed”. On Wednesday, Poland’s antitrust authority imposed a multi-billion zloty fine on Russian gas giant Gazprom and multimillion zloty penalties on five other international companies for going ahead with the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline „without the required consent.”
