The Polish government plans to make it easier to pass school-leaving exams in Poland amid a coronavirus epidemic that has caused problems for students.

In a statement the Polish Education Minister said that, “Students were not able to acquire as much knowledge as they would have if they had been studying normally” and attending classes in person rather than remotely. He added that students preparing for next year’s matura final school exams would be required to learn 20 to 30 percent less. The exams are key in determining Polish teenagers’ educational and professional prospects, and are also a social rite of passage.
