Radio Gdansk News in English: South Korea joins project to build mega-airport in Poland

South Korea’s largest airport has become a strategic advisor for a project to build a new mega-airport in Poland. Under a deal sealed on Friday, Incheon airport – which serves the Seoul area and which is one of the most modern in the world – will share its experience in constructing a large transport hub.

Poland is planning to build its new airport between the capital, Warsaw, and the central city of Łódź. The high-profile project aims to integrate air, rail and road transport. The first passengers will be able to use the new airport towards the end of 2027, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported. The new Solidarność (Solidarity) Airport will be able to handle up to 45 million passengers a year in the first stage of the project.


Poland’s Iga Świątek has moved into the final of the Adelaide International tennis tournament in Australia, with a straight-set win over Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann.

An ultra-marathon athlete has set a record by running up and down Poland’s highest peak nine times in 24 hours.

Roman Ficek started his endurance feat on Thursday afternoon, and covered over 63 kilometres in total, with only short breaks in a mountain shelter. Nobody had attempted a challenge of that kind before on the Rysy peak. The crest in southern Poland’s Tatra mountains straddles the country’s border with Slovakia and is 2,500 metres tall.


And finally, contractors for a new western bypass between Gdańsk and Gdynia have been chosen this week. The budget for the project is set at PLN 1,5 billion with works expected to be completed by 2025.

 
The bypass of the Tri-City Metropolis will be a road with a cross-section of two lanes each with a length of over 32 km. he route will connect the South junction , where the Tri-City Ring Road connects with the South Gdansk Ring Road , with the Chwaszczyno junction , which will be built as part of the ongoing construction of the Kashubian Route.
