Poland on Saturday reported 415 new coronavirus infections and 38 more deaths, bringing the country’s total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,874,824 and fatalities to 74,139. Of the new confirmed cases, the most – 54 – were in the western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań. The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 30 people with pre-existing medical conditions and eight who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said. On April 8th, the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus. On April 1st, the Polish health ministry confirmed just over 35,000 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

President Andrzej Duda has urged Poles to support the arts by heading to the cinema and theatre following a loosening of coronavirus restrictions.
Writing on Twitter, the president wrote „Polish culture and its institutions need a return to normality. Cinemas, theatres, operas and other artistic events are waiting for audiences. Please support them with your attendance”. Cinemas, theatres, operas and philharmonics in Poland were allowed to reopen on May 21 at half capacity as the government eased rules designed to curb the spread of COVID-19. The move came amid a fall in fresh infections. Listeners and viewers must, however, observe sanitary precautions. They are not allowed to consume food or drinks while watching a show.

The national polish rail carrier, PKP, will this evening add an additional train service from Gdynia to Warsaw in response to large numbers of tourists visiting the city this weekend.
The special designated train, IC5120 will depart from Gdynia Główna at 19.40 with a 300 person capacity. A spokesperson said that if demand requires it, more carriages may be added to the train. The extended service train will stop at Sopot at 19.48, Gdańsk Główny at 20.03, with further stops at Tczew, Malbork and others along the way. The train will arrive in Warsaw at 23.30.
