Poland’s deputy finance minister says an inflation rate of 8 percent is „very possible” this year. Piotr Patkowski told Radio Plus that the Ministry of Finance is currently focused on the scenario of inflation reaching between 7 and 8 percent.
The consumer price index, which is the main measure of inflation, rose to 6.8 percent in October, the highest year-on-year increase for 20 years.

Pszczyna hospital says staff did everything possible for pregnant mother who died
A hospital at the centre of a controversy around the death of a pregnant woman has said that medical staff did everything they could for the mother and child.
The 30-year-old woman died of sepsis at Pszczyna hospital after being admitted for complications of her 22-week pregnancy.
The woman’s family said she told them that she believed doctors were delaying their interventions because of Poland’s new laws limiting abortions.
The case has sparked a political storm, and demonstrations around the country.
The hospital said in a statement yesterday that „doctors and midwives did everything that was in their power, and fought a difficult battle for the patient and her baby”.
On the same day the health minister ordered a review of the case.

Health ministry orders Warsaw’s Praga hospital to become Covid-only
Praga Hospital in Warsaw has been instructed to become a Covid-only facility by the health ministry.
An order issued by health minister Adam Niedzielski says the hospital must prepare 271 beds for Covid patients by 15 November, and keep them until the end of the epidemic in Poland.
Warsaw’s deputy mayor says that the city objects to the decision because the hospital is already full of other patients, and its oxygen system cannot serve the required number of beds.

Gdynia to build quarantine housing estate
City authorities in Gdynia have announced that they will build a housing development specifically for people in quarantine.
The facility will have a dozen flats to house up to 18 people, and will be ready next Spring.
Gdynia’s vice president Michał Guć said the accommodation will be available to people infected with Covid who don’t want to spread the disease to family members at home.

Jail for librarian who borrowed from readers
A librarian from Dęblin has been imprisoned after stealing readers’ personal data and using it to take out 315,000 zlotys in loans.
The woman copied readers’ ID cards when they signed up for the library and used the data to borrow money and sign up for phone contracts.
She used the personal details of 96 people in her crimes, and was sentenced to 18 months’ in prison.

Polish swimmers take relay medal
Polish swimmers have won the bronze medal in the 4 x 50 metres relay at the European short course swimming championships.
The red and white team came in behind Russian and Dutch swimmers to take the medal in a new record time for Poland.
Today Katarzyna Wasick has the chance to take another medal for Poland when she swims in the 50 metres crawl.
