Data released by the Police in Pomerania has shown a sharp increase in the number of suicides and attempted suicides since 2019 among young people. In 2019 there were 66 attempted suicides and in 2021 the number rose to almost 300. The corresponding number of suicides has risen from 5 to 14.

A spokeswoman for the Psychiatric Hospital in Gdańsk says help is available and that on average between 3 and 12 children between the ages of 10 and 17 seek help with a mental crisis each day. Among the explanations for the rise are the isolation and anxiety brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic.
