Poland is set to receive PLN 300 million for weapons purchases it has been revealed.

The Polish prime minister has said that his country will receive up to EUR 300 million from the European Union for weapons purchases by Easter, followed by a further EUR 500-600 million in the next few months, as compensation for arms sent to war-torn Ukraine. Mateusz Morawiecki added this would make Poland “the biggest beneficiary” of the EU’s European Peace Facility, defined as “an off-budget funding mechanism for EU actions with military and defence implications”. He made the announcement at the close of a two-day EU summit in Brussels, Belgium, on Friday. The Polish prime minister stressed: “Poland will be the biggest beneficiary of the European Peace Facility. It is a huge success for Poland. We have strived for it from the beginning. The role of Poland in Ukraine’s defensive war against Russian barbarism has finally been appreciated.”

The Polish national team have lost their opening match in the Euro 2024 qualifier with a 1-3 away defeat against the Czech Republic on Friday.

The Czech side opened the scoring for the Czech Republic in the first minute of the game at Sinobo Stadium in Prague, with a second goal added two minutes later in a dismal show from the Poles. The first goal was the fastest ever conceded by the Polish national team, and the second goal also marked a record for the fastest second goal against the national teal. The Czech team went 3-0 up in the 64th minute, with Poland managing to pull back a consolation goal in the 87th minute. The Poles take on Albania in their next match in Warsaw on Monday.

A number of Polish restaurants are set to be added to the Michelin Guide which highlights the best of the best of restaurants around the world.

The prestigious publication is set to list restaurants in the capital Warsaw, the historic southern city of Kraków and Poznań in the west, as well as surrounding areas, according to the Polish state tourism promotion agency. More regions will be added in the coming years, officials said.

And finally, Gdańsk airport has announced a new set of flight destinations that its operators are opening as part of the summer season of routes.

New flights to Rome, Naples, Prague, Podgorica and Riga have been announced as well as the return of Zurich, Zadar and Dusseldorf. In total the airport now has 80 connections available to destinations in 24 countries. Ryanair operates 39 connections while rival Wizzair has 31 routes available from Gdańsk.
