Polish President Andrzej Duda will formally appoint the new Polish government for the next parliamentary term today at 2:30 pm at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw according to a report by the Polish Press Agency.
Earlier this week the President accepted the resignation of Morawiecki’s cabinet and asked him to continue with his duties until the new government is appointed. The Polish constitution states that the president has 14 days after accepting the resignation to appoint a new cabinet at which time the new prime minister presents the government’s programme in the form of a policy speech in the Sejm (lower house). The Sejm then takes a vote of confidence in the new cabinet. Last Friday Morawiecki presented the line-up of his new cabinet that will consist of 20 ministers.
ARCHAEOLOGISTS DISCOVER 2,000-YEAR-OLD GRAVES OF WARRIORS IN POLAND
Up to 20 or more 2,000-year-old graves of warriors have been discovered by archaeologists in south-central Poland not far from Kraków according to the news websites TVN and First News. The remains of the cemetery cover an area of about one hectare were discovered in an arable field and therefore had been quite badly damaged as a result of ploughing and other farming activities. During archaeological searches several interesting finds have been discovered, including pottery and fragments of swords as well as bones and javelin and spear points. Archaeologists are planning further excavations in Bejsc in the coming years.
POLISH SECURITY SERVICES SEIZE TWO FOR PLOTTING BREIVIK-STYLE ATTACKS
Polish security service agents have arrested two people this week accused of planning attacks against Muslims inspired by other recent white supremacist terror attacks according to an article by Reuters.
The two suspects were taken into custody on Sunday in Warsaw and the northern city of Szczecin.
The group intended to carry out attacks using firearms and explosives, the statement said, and during one search of a house in Warsaw, agents found materials for making large quantities of explosives, guns and ammunition.
POLAND WANTS GDAŃSK SHIPYARD ON UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE LIST
Poland is pitching for the Gdańsk Shipyard, the birthplace the Solidarity trade union and movement, to be placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List according to the Deputy Culture Minister.
The minister who is in Paris this week for the 40th UNESCO General Conference, said she hoped Poland’s efforts to have the shipyard entered on the list will prove successful. Poland’s National Heritage Institute launched the campaign in September.
The UNESCO General Conference is being attended by delegates from 193 countries.

WHAT’S ON – THIS WEEKEND IN THE TRICITY
This weekend sees the AmberExpo Half Marathon Gdańsk which is the biggest street run organized in Gdansk. It is also one the fastest growing sport events in the region. AmberExpo Half Marathon Gdańsk means amazingly fast routes approved by the Polish Athletic Association which stretch across the main streets of the city. Runners can choose between three distances: a half marathon (21,1 km), 10 km and 5 km.
As the part of the race, a few unique classifications for runners are provided:
The company of five – the competition for company teams
A run for parents with jogging strollers – for parents with small children
Amber Kids – running competitions for children at the following distances: 200m, 500m and 1000m.
The 10K race takes place on Saturday with the 5K and half marathon taking place on Sunday with the kids’ races taking place on Saturday.

This evening at 7pm at Opera Bałtycka in Gdańsk you are invited to a showing of the classic opera Giselle. First staged in Paris on June 28, 1841 at the Royal Academy of Music, Giselle is inspired by the traditional motif of love stronger than death, which goes back to the myth of Orpheus and Euridice to reach its peak in the mid-nineteenth century. The work with Adolphe Adam’s music is a classical ballet. Tchaikovsky himself, a great symphony and creator of ballet music, described Giselle as “a poetic, musical and choreographic gem”. Ticket prices range from 50zł to 90zł.
