Poland’s foreign ministry has condemned Russia’s missile attack on residential areas in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia over the weekend, calling the shelling „an act of barbarism.”
At least 14 people were killed and 89 others injured, including 11 children, as a result of Russia’s shelling of the Ukrainian city in the early hours of Sunday, according to an updated toll announced yesterday by Ukrainian officials.
A high-rise residential building was partially destroyed, five other apartment buildings leveled, and many more damaged in 12 Russian missile attacks, according to regional governor Oleksandr Starukh.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed that those who ordered the strikes would be held responsible „before the law and before people.”

A fourth passenger has been confirmed dead after a tourist boat overturned Saturday afternoon on the Kashubian Canal near the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.
According to Grażyna Wawryniuk from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk, the victim passed away Sunday afternoon in the hospital.
The tourist boat Galar Gdański was carrying 14 passengers Saturday afternoon when it was capsized by a high wave most likely caused by a large vessel maneuvering in the area. An investigation into the incident is already underway, with formal proceedings set to begin today.

Iga Świątek lost to Czech favorite Barbora Krejčíková in the finals of the Ostrava Open tournament yesterday afternoon, describing the grueling three-hour match as „my most physically demanding game this year.”
Despite the loss, Świątek praised fans for creating a „fantastic atmosphere” during the tournament in Ostrava, describing Sunday’s show of support as „a dream match for us, for the fans, and the organizers.”
Immediately after the match, she declared that the money won in Ostrava would be donated to a Polish non-profit organization dealing with mental health, coinciding with World Mental Health Day on Monday.
The Polish world No. 1 now heads to the United States to compete in the San Diego Open, with her first match set for Wednesday.

Polish football fans are celebrating after the announcement that Poland will face the Czech Republic, Albania, the Faroe Islands, and Moldova in qualifiers for the Euro 2024 football championships in Germany.
Cezary Kulesza, head of the Polish Football Association (PZPN), said in a tweet that the Polish team had „a very good draw” in Frankfurt on Sunday and „will be the favorite” to win its Euro 2024 qualifying group.
Qualifiers will be played between March and November next year, with the top two teams from each group qualifying directly for the championships. The Euro 2024 tournament will be held from June 14 to July 14, 2024, in 10 cities in Germany, with the final played at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

Residents are reminded that beaches and sections of the coastline in Trójmiasto will be closed today due to the neutralization of unexploded ordnance in the Bay of Gdańsk.
As per SMS warnings sent by the Government Security Center (RCB) over the weekend, access to the sea is restricted from Babie Doły in Gdynia to Gdańsk Westerplatte from 8:00 to 16:00 today. The operation to neutralize some 3,500 kilos of unexploded WWII ordnance began on Tuesday, October 4, and is scheduled to be completed today.
