Poland’s central bank has trimmed key interest rates by a further quarter of a percent, amid signs of subsiding inflation. The move by its rate-setting Monetary Policy Council means that the lending rate will be lowered from 6 to 5.75 percent.

Inflation in Poland stood at 8.2 percent last month, down from 10.1 percent in August, according to a flash estimate by the country’s statistics office.

Poland’s central bank chief, Adam Glapiński, earlier this summer repeated his prediction that the Polish economy would avoid a recession in 2023 and that inflation would drop to single digits by the end of the year.

The solution to the migration issue is to strengthen the southern borders of the European Union and to send aid to Africa, says the Polish government spokesman Piotr Müller. He stressed that the mechanism of forced relocation currently being discussed by the EU is „wrong and illegal” because it forces member states to de facto implement EU rules on internal policy.

Müller also explained that the proposed policy includes a clause that EU institutions may increase the number of relocated people and the level of any financial penalty, at any time.
