Britons are going to the polls today to elect a new parliament in the third general election in five years. Voting started at 7am GMT and will continue until 10pm tonight.
It’s the first UK election to take place in December in nearly 100 years and there have been some concerns that bad weather would affect turnout as heavy rain and snow is forecast across the UK.
Unlike Poland, the UK allows discussion of the election on election day and media outlets will be closely following the day’s events.
The first indication of result of the election will come at the stroke of 10pm, 11pm Polish time, when voting will close and the results of an exit poll will be revealed, giving us a more accurate idea of how people voted.
Overnight, areas around the UK will hurry to count votes and one by one will declare the local winner. Results of the overall winner are expected in the early hours of Friday morning.
Exports Overtake Imports in Poland
Poland had a foreign trade surplus of 4.6 billion PLN in the first 10 months of this year, that’s according to Statistics Poland.
The report, released on Wednesday, Poland’s exports were just over 845 billion PLN while imports were just under 841 billion.
The biggest buyers of Polish exports were the Czech Republic, the UK, and Germany while the most imports were from China, Russia, and Germany again.
The surplus is a significant boost from last year, when Poland had a trade deficit of 13.8 billion PLN.
Fares on Tricity’s Transport Expected to Rise
Fares on public transport across Tricity are set to go up in Spring 2020 after operators agreed to jointly raise ticket prices.
The raises were agreed at the last meeting of the Metropolitan Transit Union of Gdansk Bay, which includes ZTM Gdańsk and ZKM Gdynia as well as others.
A single ticket for regular lines will go up to 3.80zl while a 24-hour ticket will go up by 1zl to 14zl.
Season tickets will also see an increase in price.
Some good news for transit users though, fares for night lines will be lowered to equal those of day time lines.
Transit Union chairman Kamil Bujak said the rises were down to increased costs and salaries for staff.
If approved by city authorities, the changes will come into effect on April 1st.
