Poland’s Deputy Finance Minister was fired on Friday from his job by the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki over poor handling of recent tax reforms in the country. The move follows the departure of the finance minister last Monday.

Prime Minister Morawiecki is doubling as finance minister until a new replacement is found. The resignation was announced after senior ruling party politicians held a four-hour meeting in Warsaw to discuss possible changes in the government amid reports of poor handling of the tax reform by officials. The leader of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party said of the poor performance of the officials, that „Maybe it was due to a lack of sufficient qualifications, maybe also due to a lack of goodwill”.

Polish ski jumper Kamil Stoch finished fourth in the large hill event at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics on Saturday. Norway’s Marius Lindvik won gold, Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi took silver, and Germany’s Karl Geiger was ranked third.

Last Sunday, Kubacki took the bronze in the men’s normal hill event, winning Poland’s first medal of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics have brought together almost 3,000 athletes from 91 countries to compete in 15 sports. Team Poland consists of 57 athletes, 27 men and 30 women. The Games run until February 20th.

The body of a surgeon and oncologist from Sopot, who had been missing since October has been found in Lithuania.

The body of Michał Kąkol was discovered on a beach in Klaipeda on the Lithuanian coast. It is likely to have drifted in the sea from Gdańsk where he went missing. DNA test have confirmed that the body is that of Mr Kąkol. There are no suspicious circumstances reported in connection with his death. The body was reportedly found in November, but

And finally, a house on Łostowicka Street in Gdańsk has been badly damaged after a fire broke out on Thursday evening. One person suffered from the effects of smoke inhalation, but no one was seriously injured during the blaze.

The fire appeared to start on the ground floor of the building and, although it did not move it to the roof, completely consumed the interior. The losses are expected to be huge. The blaze was brought under control by 6 teams of firefighters.
